Globe Valve Installation Costs, Repair, and Maintenance in 2023 – Globe valves are commonly utilized in plant pipes because of their outer form. They can be operated manually or automatically. Unlike a gate valve, a globe valve may be used to control flow or pressures as well as to shut off the flow completely. It can also be used as a check valve or as a pressure relief valve. There are Several Manufacturers on the Linquip platform which can help you find proper valves.

Globe Valve Installation Costs
Several factors can influence the cost of the procedure. The valve alone costs from $150 to $300 on average. If there are any extra repairs or replacements, the price might rise to $600.
Table 1 Globe Valve Installation and Replacement Costs
Types of Service | Price Range |
Replacement Average Cost | $600 |
Gadget Cost | $150-300 |
Labor Cost | $35-$250 |
Testing Cost | $65-$150 |
Globe valves are mostly used for steam or other media that require throttling. The seat design facilitates this by leveraging its globe form as it descends to link with the seat, effectively reducing the flow down until it closes entirely on the seat face. This, however, results in a greater pressure drop and turbulence in the line than, for instance, a gate valve.
The user or system designer is responsible for selecting the size, pressure class, and material for all globe valves. Process Systems may make recommendations in this area, but the end-user or plant operator is completely responsible for the selection process.
Installation Process
Globe valves are unidirectional, meaning they can only take one direction of flow: beneath the disc. There is a direction arrow cast into the valve body, but you can simply check whether you are looking at the underside of the seat or above the seat by peering into one end of the valve. Products Like Globe Valves are used in a variety of industrial applications, including plumbing systems.
It is advised that the valve be installed vertically only, with the handwheel action at the valve’s top. This guarantees that the valve does not suffer from early wear or damage. The most important installation points are shown below.
- Clear the valve of any packing or debris.
- Make sure there is no water or moisture within the valve (can expand when subject to heat on startup)
- Ascertain if the valve is stable (can be damaged by long runs of unsupported pipe clamping in on the valve)
- Make sure you have enough space to operate the valve.
- Perform a dry cycle of the valve from closed to open and back.
- Tighten flange bolts in a diagonal pattern gradually.
- Raise the internal pressure gradually to check that the flanges and bolts are properly placed and the valve is shut.
- Raise the internal pressure to normal working levels and double-check.
Operation Considerations
- To shut the seat, do not overtighten it. If media continues to flow through the seat, it may be destroyed.
- Even though they’re fantastic for managing flow, avoid leaving the disc in the midst of it for long periods. This can prematurely wear the seat, and in steam applications where continuous throttling is less than 10% open, severe vibration, noise, and wire pull will generate a leak channel that may not be visible to the human eye.
- During operation, do not exceed 100 percent of the valve’s maximum pressure rating at any moment. Pressure spikes or variations that exceed the valve’s pressure rating are exclusively the responsibility of the operator, and if not followed, can result in serious injury or even death.
Maintenance Factors
A regular maintenance and inspection routine will guarantee that your globe valve lasts as long as possible. Below are some topics to think about (not exhaustive).
- The valve should be checked regularly. Check the gland, in particular, to see if there is any visible wear or if the valve is leaking.
- If the valve is not used on a regular basis, it is a good idea to cycle it to ensure the disc does not become lodged in the seat.
- Using a grease gun and the grease nipple provided, oil the crossbar. If necessary, lubricate the spindle.
- If the packing has to be adjusted, slightly tighten the gland bolts. If you overtighten the gland, it will be damaged. If the leak still occurs, the gland packing may need to be changed.
If the valve is to be withdrawn from the line for examination, be sure there is no pressure in the line and that it has reached room temperature. After it has been removed, a thorough check may be carried out, including the globe (disc) and the seat. Any scale that has accumulated at the valve’s bottom can be removed. Summary
The globe valve is mostly used to stop the flow of the pipeline. Globe valves function better than gate valves in terms of controlling performance, opening height, closing time, manufacturing, and maintenance. The sealing surface is resistant to wear and scratching, has strong sealing performance, and has a long service life span. The globe valve’s valve body construction is more intricate, resulting in higher flow resistance and higher energy consumption; it is ideal for media such as steam and oil products, but not for media with high viscosity, particles, coking, or precipitation.
As a balanced construction, medium and high-pressure globe valves and large-diameter globe valves can be employed. The choke valve is an extension of the globe valve, which controls the pressure and flow of the medium by modifying the flow channel. Except for the streamlined cone type opening and closing portions, the remainder of the valve is identical to a globe valve.
